A major focus of the firm this year has been to expand our Financial Planning offering to all clients. We have discovered this service is so popular and powerful that we now incorporate our planning process for all new relationships.
As a sign of the success we've seen, I thought I would share a few stories of how we are helping some of our planning clients. We will expand on each story in later editions of the newsletter.
Case Study #1
Who: Married couple
Age: Mid 50's
Life: Both working
Children: 2 in college
We have managed investment portfolios for this couple for many years. Our financial planning process took several months to complete due to the complexity of issues.
We completed a comprehensive review of assets, liabilities, insurance needs, corporate retirement plans, stock options, restricted stock, and estate planning essentials. Much of the conversation revolved around the husband's pension. His employer was giving employees the option to take their pension as a lump-sum or an annuity. We ran multiple scenarios to determine how this variable along with many others would affect the health of the family's overall financial plan.
Case Study #2
Who: Medical Professional
Age: Early 30's
Life: New Doctor
It is not unusual for young doctors to graduate medical school with a hefty six figure debt load. A major focus of our planning was dealing with student debt and repayment strategies.
In addition to working at the hospital, this young doctor also wanted to start a private medical practice. Since this was a consideration, we were able to bring together outside accounting, legal, and insurance professionals to meet and review a number of options and recommendations.

Technology News Update
We are pleased to begin the roll-out of our new, secure Client Vault! This online vault will enable us to exchange documents in a secure environment, and also provides colorful graphics to allow you to see an in-depth look at your portfolio.
It will also provide us a platform to post your quarterly reports, performance and billing statements in one convenient location. This has been one of our goals for some time and we are very pleased to begin the roll-out.

Jason was interviewed by Emily Volz discussing his plan to bring Financial Planning services to the under-served young professional market.
East Coast Ideas Conference, Boston MA
Gary and Jason attended this 2-day research conference meeting portfolio companies and discovering new investment opportunities.
Schwab Solutions Training, Boston MA
Kris and Paul attended this training session with 100 other regional advisors to keep up with technical systems offering, cyber-security, and training.
Paul and Jay participated in a golf event at Valley Country Club to raise funds for the North Kingstown RI High School Boys Basketball team.
A special evening
A special evening was in Newport, RI this summer at the wedding of Gary's daughter, Carly. Held on the waterfront at Belle Mer, it was a beautiful night and a wonderful start for Carly and her new husband, Ralph Harary.
Client Appreciation Events
Every year we come up with fun activities as a way of saying thank you to our clients for their trust and respect. This year we held two events. The first was at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The second was held in Portsmouth, RI where we watched an exciting Polo Match (in style)!
