2017 Financial Planning Association Retreat

A few weeks ago I attended the Financial Planning Association Retreat. This conference took place just north of Atlanta, GA where advanced financial planners gathered to discuss new ideas regarding the future of the profession.
It was an intimate gathering of 200 or so financial advisors and planners. I was able to network with other professionals and learn about what is working in their practice and where they are looking to improve. This conference was unlike any other one that I’ve attended in that it focuses as much on the art of being an intuitive financial planner as it does on the science of best planning practices.
There was a big “what’s next” aspect of the conference where we broke out in small groups to discuss emerging and cutting edge developments in financial planning. A large portion of the event focused on serving retirees and elders. I thought this was particularly relevant because 10,000 baby boomers are retiring each day now! As such, popular topics were protecting clients from elder abuse, estate planning, and the importance of family meetings to discuss end of life concerns. I will be incorporating these new ideas into my planning practice in the very near future.
